The forum theater
The Theater-Forum is the most spectacular and most used technique of the Compagnie du Théâtre de l'Opprimé.
Created and developed by Augusto Boal Through his theatrical practice in Brazil and then during his exile in Europe and particularly in France, the technique of forum theater is based on two convictions:

The role of the director or “joker”
A fundamental figure in supporting the interaction between the auditorium and the stage, the director or “joker” promotes debate with the public and coordinates the interventions of the spectators on stage and the reactions of the actors.
During the show, he leads the reflection as far as possible and carries the avenues of reflection proposed by the public by leading it to develop its point of view, to clarify its intentions.

Duration
A Theater-Forum session is from 1h30 to 2h00. Fifteen minutes for the presentation of the prepared scenes and 1h15 to 1h45 of debate/theatrical exchange.
Stage area
The theater-forum can be performed in any type of room. A sound system should be provided (microphones and amplification) depending on the acoustics of the place. There is no need for special lighting.
Decors
None ofspecific horn is not intended for a performancenation of theater-forum so that the public can easily project themselves into any space that the sketches evoke him. The actors only need tables and chairs, and possibly two or three accessories depending on the chosen theme (water carafe, canteen tray, book, etc.).
C’est un spectacle de théâtre interactif qui permet par le biais du jeu théâtral de faire émerger la parole et la réflexion autour d’un thème choisi. Le contenu du spectacle est établi et détaillé en amont, entre le partenaire et le comédien responsable du projet (le « joker » ou metteur en scène), de manière à créer quelque chose « fait sur mesure » qui réponde parfaitement aux besoins du partenaire.
Dans un premier temps, les comédiens jouent plusieurs courtes scènes évoquant des situations quotidiennes pouvant être vécues comme conflictuelles ou bloquées.
Puis ces scènes sont rejouées autant de fois que nécessaire, de telle sorte que le public puisse venir remplacer un personnage sur scène (ou en créer un nouveau) pour essayer de parvenir à une issue plus satisfaisante.
Face aux acteurs et confronté à la scène initiale, le spect-Acteur devra tenter de mettre en place des alternatives possibles aux difficultés rencontrées.
La représentation est placée sous la responsabilité de la salle. Il ne s’agit pas d’apporter un message ou de trouver la bonne réponse, mais d’expérimenter ensemble, sur scène, des solutions possibles.
Le théâtre-forum peut aborder n’importe quel sujet/thématique sociale, peu importe le contexte et milieu social.
